don't fall for a runner
summer 2024
dont fall for a runner
they’ll leave in a blink of an eye
shoes are tied, just incase
you make the wrong move, say the wrong thing
or ask them to stay a little longer
i wish you would have stayed
and unpacked your home into mine
i didn’t realize your laces were tied the entire time
bags packed, ready for the next lap
dont fall for a runner
they’ll run
they’ll make you fall in love with mornings and black coffee
but they wont ever slow down
im chasing im running im trying to catch up but -oh no- im too slow
Oh please, dont go
why didn’t you leave your shoes at the door?
i think I will crave the runner’s touch forever
until one decides to stay
i live for the chase, though i despise it
believe them when they tell you who they are
a trackstar
they crave the track and not your touch
the face before they go, all nonchalant
and god I just keep falling in love with every person i meet
i am so naive
as I sob to my hometown friends time and time again
i look them in the eye, promising I will never love someone again
and as they wipe my tears and hold my hands
they know it’s not true
it’s thrilling at the beginning, then scorchingly abrupt
dont fall for a runner
their fleeting love won’t last
they will take your heart
and love you
with sand in your hair and fingers intertwined
and then they will run
they always do
you can’t stop a runner from running
the sun from shining
a star from taking the spotlight
me from loving
you cannot stop a runner
i wish you took your shoes off at the door like i did
and i wish i noticed your laces were tied this entire time
